Set up in 1984, Ranbaxy Malaysia Sdn Bhd, is a joint venture between Ranbaxy Laboratories Limited (RLL), India and Malaysian shareholders. The company started manufacturing after three years in 1987 through establishing a facility in Sungai Petani, Kedah to cater to the Malaysia and Singapore markets. The products manufactured are for oral use comprising liquid formulations, tablets, capsules and granules for suspension.

Ranbaxy Malaysia has presence in the area of cardiovascular, antibiotic, pain management, gastrointestinal and food supplement segments. In 2002, Ranbaxy Laboratories Limited increased its stake in Ranbaxy (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. (RMSB) to 55 per cent , after the successful Rights Issue offer made in October 2002. The company e achieved sales of US$ 8.56 million and was ranked no. 14 in the Malaysian Pharmaceutical market, according to PhAMA (September 2002).

Trade sales were reportedly increased by 15 per cent, driven by branded products like Lestric, Sporidex AF, Histac, Enhancin, Isoket, Romesec and Simvor. These products registered a growth of 81 per cent in government hospitals and polyclinics and a modest 9 per cent in private hospitals.Lestric, Rapidol and Deponit were the major products in Singapore.

Amongst the products, Histac retained the no. 2 position in the company. Sporidex registered a strong growth of 50 per cent triggered by the introduction of Sporidex AF in July 2002. Invoril was another fast-moving brand, which was promoted in government hospitals. The brand recorded a growth of 70 per cent in 2002. The company's top 10 brands accounted for 79 per cent of the total sales.

Ranbaxy Malaysia has sales and marketing agreements with Schwarz Pharma, Germany; Desitin, Germany; Pharmascience, Canada; Knoll, India; Ajanta pharmaceuticals, India, Almirall Prodesfarma, Spain to promote their products in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei.
